PR Case Study

Creating Stories

Pioneering PR can lead to exciting, unexpected tasks in your career like handling media tours for singing cockroaches in Cirque du Soleil’s touring show “Ovo,” organizing a groundbreaking event for 51 Bridge Street with The AM Group, handling a social media takeover for the entirety of the Pinnacle EMS leadership conference presented by Fitch & Associates to implementing community food blogger tasting events at Sprezzatura. The creative realm of public relations is a dynamic and audacious journey. One of my most memorable and fulfilling efforts in PR focuses on Mancini’s Bakery, a Pittsburgh-acclaimed icon for bread lovers everywhere.

To attract Mancini’s Bakery patrons during the 2020 pandemic, Mancini’s co-owner, Nick Mancini Hartner, constructed an 8ft. Christmas tree- made entirely out of its finer Italian bread- so that shoppers could selfie the bread creation in line at the McKees Rocks store during COVID-safety protocols. Thanks to YaJagoff Media, it was a creative, new way to dazzle patrons with dough and hoist a new tradition out of the oven, quite literally. The community response was overwhelming while drawing complete local coverage in Pittsburgh and gaining national attention, too.

In 2021, YaJagoff Media continued the tradition, and the bakery built a Mancini’s Bakery ‘Doughman’ after running a social media voting campaign. I was fortunate enough to hit the ground running with both PR endeavors.

As the flour flurries came in to bring good tidings and cheer during the holiday shopping season, the Mancini’s Bakery Doughman, with a height of 7ft and weighing at 200 lbs., ignited the holiday glee as both Mancini’s store locations maintained social distancing and safe ordering during high volume hours.

After analyzing the aftermath of the Doughman debut, the following outlets picked up the Mancini’s story with the following media mentions: Pittsburgh City Paper, Made in PGH, Pennsylvania News Today, NEXT Pittsburgh, KDKA, WTAE, WPXI, Daily Nation Today, Opera News America, MSN, Explore Venango, United Press International, Washington D.C, Yahoo!, Pressreader.com, News Break, and Flipboard.

The power of working with local news media can take a story anywhere in the world. In seeing this tradition grow in its second year, the Mancini’s Bakery Doughman traveled internationally to news outlets and blogs in Jordan, Russia, Taiwan, Kazakhstan, India, and Finland

It is an exhilarating project to continue while showcasing Mancini’s Bakery talents.
